Starting from the 2nd of July and running through the whole month, Mandy Zhang are exhibiting a solo show of Chinese artist Xiaoguo Chen “Behind Every Exquisite Thing”. The project is centred around Seymour Place itself and grew from the artist’s fascination with the street and the community that surrounds it. Unable to undertake a traditional residency in London, Xiaoguo developed what we have called a “virtual residency”, using conversations, local stories, observations of the neighbourhood, and references to Oscar Wilde’s The Picture of Dorian Gray to construct a body of paintings inspired by Seymour Place.
