Atlas Gallery is delighted to present a new solo exhibition by Düsseldorf photographer Andreas Gefeller (b. 1970), bringing together significant new and recent works. The exhibition marks six years since Gefeller’s last solo exhibition at Atlas Gallery, Mapping Perception, in 2020. The exhibition brings together works from four significant bodies of work: The Other Side of Light (2016–ongoing), Clouds (2019–2021), Aurora Urbanis (2024) and Insight Out (2025–ongoing). Each of these different series explore a common question: how do we understand the world when what we see no longer tells us the whole story? Moving between natural phenomena, urban environments, water, light and the invisible systems of the digital world, Gefeller examines the shifting boundary between what is real and what is constructed, what is visible and what remains beyond our perception. The exhibition is both an exploration of photography and a reflection on our changing relationship with the world around us, a world increasingly shaped by technology, data and artificial intelligence, yet still grounded in the physical and natural environments we inhabit.

The exhibition will premiere a selection of entirely new photographs, offering the first opportunity to collectors to experience the latest chapter in the artist’s evolving practice.

On 26 August, Mandy Zhang Art warmly invites you to the opening of The Things that Hold Us, a duo exhibition bringing together new paintings by Korean artist Heyo Lee and photographic works by Chinese artist Can Sun. The exhibition explores the quiet significance of the everyday through two distinct artistic perspectives. While Lee’s contemplative still lifes invite moments of reflection through familiar domestic objects, Sun employs humour and poetic restraint to examine the emotional and political tensions embedded within ordinary life. Together, their works reveal how the objects and moments that surround us are shaped by memory, relationships, and lived experience.

Mandy Zhang Art is pleased to present Salt Land, a solo exhibition of new paintings by Michael Gao, exploring the artist’s ongoing fascination with coastal terrain, mineral deposits, and the slow choreography of erosion. Drawing on childhood memories of salt flats and tidal marshes, Gao renders landscapes suspended between the geological and the intimate — crystalline surfaces that read as much like skin or memory as stone. Through layered washes and encrusted texture, the exhibition considers land not as static backdrop but as something lived-in, weathered, and quietly accumulating meaning over time. In Salt Land, Gao invites us to look closely at the terrain we so often pass over, finding in its grain and residue a record of both place and self. Opening night is 8 October till 14 November.
