In 1942, the Hertford House became a stage for cultural diplomacy with two exhibitions transforming the space into a forum for Anglo Soviet friendship. Launched by Soviet Ambassador Ivan Maisky and his wife Agniya, these works reveal how art, propaganda and architecture were mobilised to strengthen wartime alliances. The display draws on newly revisited archives, surviving catalogues and actual artworks shown in 1942 to illuminate how the Wallace Collection contributed to Britain’s wartime cultural front.
