Join Veranda Books on the 13th November for what promises to be a very special evening in the presence of Inua Ellams MBE and Roger Robinson. Firm fixtures in the UK literary scene, Inua writes for the stage, and is an essayist and poet. Roger is a poet and musician and proponent of Creative Citizenship, the argument that creativity belongs to everyone.
The evening will centre on poetry; Inua’s Rathbones Folio Prize-longlisted collection The Actual is being reissued in November. A personal and political work dealing with empire and its legacies of racism, injustice and toxic masculinity, this is a collection that bristles with energy and fury. Roger Robinson’s poetry is characterised by musicality, soul and technical precision, all embodied in the newly-published Some Sacred Harbour, which gathers a lifetime of work from a much-revered, prize-winning writer.
Doors open at 6.30 for drinks; at 7 readings will begin and conversation will follow, we suspect this will run past 8. Tickets will sell quickly for this one: if you’d like to come along, book now or call in to the shop to reserve your spot.
